ACCORDING TO MYERS-BRIGGS, I AM A MASTERMIND! I AM AN “ODD BALL”.
I am a sucker for a personality test. A long time ago and again recently, I took the Myers-Briggs test and found out my Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is still INTJ (Introversion + Intuition + Thinking + Judging) – aka Mastermind (a rare kind)
If you are not familiar with it, the Myers-Briggs scale evaluates four different dimensions (personality types developed by Carl Jung), which describes how a person:
When it comes to Marketing and Social Media, I did some light research, and found two interesting facts:
- gets energy: extraversion* – introversion
- gathers information: sensing – intuition
- makes decisions: thinking – feeling
- interacts with the world: judging – perceiving
When it comes to Marketing and Social Media, I did some light research, and found two interesting facts:
- Today advertisers can take advantage of more relevant targeting by using a Myers-Briggs personality type driven online platform.
- Based on a study by CPP, extraverts outnumber introverts on Facebook and LinkedIn, which makes sense, since extroverts get energy by interacting with people. See below infographic on the Myers-Briggs types and Social Media:
Yes, I am an ‘odd ball’. I work in Marketing and Social Media and I am an introvert (granted… borderline extravert on the spectrum). I am OK with being a misfit. Especially since according to Myers-Briggs, introversion has nothing to do with being timid or inept socially. It relates to what energizes you – in this case, reflection, thoughts and solitude. Picture me solo on a white sandy beach relaxing in a hammock – getting energized to market and brand it a couple of days later.
You can take the test for yourself, and get familiarized with the categories and the 16 personality types . You can also browse through this MTBI cheat sheet, which I found very helpful.
What is your opinion on the relation between Marketing or Social Media and the personality types?
